Painting Bees For Skillshare

My second Skillshare class is now live - a little later than planned, but it's been a very busy few months, and that combined with a whole range of technical issues means that it's been a while since publishing my first class (on the plus side, the audio quality is now much improved).

I had such a great response from my first class, with some wonderful reviews, being selected by the Skillshare staff as a 'Teacher to Watch' and my students sharing some truly amazing stippled illustrations of their own.

Beautiful illustrations by students of my stippling class on Skillshare: Limon giant glass frog by Adele Liu, rose (top right) by Ülle Tiitson, rose (bottom left) by @i_am_artqueen, and a baby nautilus by Evchens Pluete.

The New Class

This class is all about bees! You'll learn how to paint bees using 3 different mediums: watercolour, gouache and watercolour pencils. It's suitable for all levels, from complete beginners, to those looking to develop their painting skills or try something new.

  • Learn to draw realistic insects by studying their morphology

  • Try a new style of painting

  • Develop your skills in watercolour/gouache/watercolour pencils

  • Decorate your own cards and crafts with painted bees

Most of my recent artwork has been in watercolour, but I painted my very first bumblebees using watercolour pencils back in 2013 as part of a mini research project for my Zoology degree. I hadn't touched them since, so it was a bit of a challenge to get used to them again… But gouache is my new love. I only started using it a couple of months ago (after being inspired by the amazing work of Thicket Design but I'm loving how versatile and flexible it can be. Being opaque, it makes the whole painting process a little less daunting because I know I can change colours, make things lighter, and fix mistakes if I need to! I definitely recommend it.

If you want to have a go at painting your own bumblebee, or just learn some new skills, click the link: https://skl.sh/2FyY1Pk for 2 months FREE Skillshare Premium membership which will give you unlimited access to all the classes on Skillshare (from photography and web design, to accounting, marketing and loads more).

I'd love to know what you think of my latest class, so please leave feedback if you can, and let me know what you'd like to see next.
